Each institution can enable a mix of the methods below to suit their individual needs, including EZproxy, Referral URLs, Username and Password access, Institutional Affiliation access. However, for the following access methods, we can only enable one per account; Open Athens, Shibboleth, and single sign-on (SSO) services such as Microsoft Entra or Okta.
If we are setting up an off-campus method that allows for multiple methods to be set up, any new off-campus access method that we set up will not interfere with access methods set up previously, and there are no extra costs involved.
Please note that for all off-campus methods we offer, all users (e.g. students, faculty, or your institution's employees) will be entitled to all your holdings. Singling out individual products is not possible. Further, all usage will be counted towards your normal COUNTER usage statistics. Unfortunately, we cannot provide usage per access method.
In addition to IP authentication on campus, Sage Journals supports the following access methods off campus:
To set up either Open Athens or Shibboleth, log in to your Sage Journals administrator account and refer to the below articles for full instructions on how to enable Open Athens or Shibboleth:
If you are interested in setting up a single sign-on (SSO) solution such as Microsoft Entra (formerly Microsoft Azure AD) or Okta, please contact Sage Online Technical Support at onlinesupport@sagepub.co.uk for more details.
For more information on this method, please see EZproxy - OCLC Support
Please e-mail your dedicated proxy IP(s) to Global IP Updates at IPUpdates@sagepub.com, and we will add your proxy IP(s) to your account. Please note, you will need to include in your configuration the latest EZproxy stanza for Sage Publications and Journals, which is available on the OCLC EZproxy support website.
This method is as follows:
To set this up, please contact our Global Online Technical Support Team at onlinesupport@sagepub.co.uk with the following details:
For this method, Sage will provide the librarian with a link which will need to be distributed among patrons or other affiliated users. For information, please see How to add Token URL users?
This method means that your patrons can gain remote access to your library holdings through their personal account on Sage Journals. For more information, please see Can I connect with my institution’s subscription access while off campus (remote access)?
