Once you have been contacted by Sage Journals: Licensing & Payment, you will be given a certain amount of time to take up the Open Access offer. After this time, the offer will expire and different action will be taken depending on whether your article is in a Gold or Hybrid journal. All deadlines will be clearly communicated to authors via email notifications sent from the Sage Journals: Licensing & Payment and by the Open Access Customer Services team.
For articles accepted for publication in a Gold journal, the Open Access offer can be held up to 60 days in Sage Journals: Licensing & Payment.
If authors do not take action in Sage Journals: Licensing & Payment within this time period, then we may have to withdraw your article from publication. If you require additional time to arrange the funds to pay your Article Processing Charge (APC), please contact our Open Access Customer Services team. They will assess each request on an ad hoc basis to grant additional time to pay the APC.
For articles requested to be published Open Access in a Hybrid journal, the Open Access offer will expire 14 days after your article enters Sage Journals: Licensing & Payment.
Authors will receive reminder 7 days before the offer expires prompting them to complete required steps for Open Access publication.
If the authors do not take action within 14 days, we will proceed to publish your article via the traditional subscription route. Open Access offers in Hybrid journals can be re-activated upon the author's request. However, please be aware that the APC is subject to change if Open Access requests are received retrospectively.
