How does IP authentication work for student access to Catalyst? Do they still have to log in?

Yes, students still have to log into their bookshelf to read the books wherever they are directed from. There’s currently no ‘view as guest’ option from VitalSource.

IP authentication is only the base layer for authentication, and it ensures that all students have access to the resource on campus. On campus can mean physically on the premises, or logged into a remote IP address which allows for external access. People outside that IP address don’t get access.

It means they can get access to the book links, and click on them. Once they click, they get to the Bookshelf sign-in page. If they stay logged in, e.g. on a personal/mobile device or laptop, the link goes straight into the book. If they haven’t logged in recently, or are on a device that doesn’t recognise them, they will be asked to re-enter their username and password.
